NEW YORK– Seton Hall guard Myles Powell was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after leading the Pirates to road wins against Villanova and Georgetown. Xavier guard KyKy Tandy has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after helping the Musketeers to victories over DePaul and Providence. Powell has been named Player of the Week four times this season.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Myles Powell, Seton Hall, G, Sr. – Powell averaged 26.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in helping the Pirates to a pair of road victories. In a 78-71 win at Georgetown, Powell poured in a game-high 34 points. He followed that performance with a team-high 19 points in a 70-64 win at 10th-ranked Villanova. The senior shot 48 percent from the field and 12-of-12 from the foul line. In six BIG EAST road games, Powell is averaging 27.0 points per game.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
KyKy Tandy, Xavier, G, Fr. – Tandy averaged 11.0 points in victories against DePaul and Providence while shooting 53.8 percent from field, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 5-of-5 from the foul line. The freshman scored 12 points in a 67-59 victory at DePaul and 10 points in a 64-58 win against Providence. In Xavier’s five BIG EAST wins, Tandy has averaged 13.2 points per game.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Kamar Baldwin, Butler, G, Sr.
Hit the winning 3-point basket in a win over Villanova (79-76). Scored a game-high 23 points in a loss at Marquette (76-57). Averaged 20 points and seven rebounds for the week.
Damien Jefferson, Creighton, F, Jr.
Averaged 14.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Shot 68.4 percent from the field for the two games. Had 16 points in a win against St. John’s (94-82).
Jahvon Blair, Georgetown, G, Jr.
Averaged 24.0 points in a 1-1 week while playing all 80 minutes in the two contests. Had a career-high 30 points in a win against DePaul (76-72).
Brendon Bailey, Marquette, F, Sr.
Scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 76-57 win against Butler. Made 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
Tyrique Jones, Xavier, F, Sr.
Averaged 13.0 points, 18.0 points and 3.0 assists in victories at DePaul (67-59) and against Providence (64-58). Has recorded three straight 18-rebound games.
