WASH DC – (Staff Report from Official News Release) – The object of the annual MLB Home Run Derby is to rip the cover off the ball. It’s that simple.
This year, the player most likely to do just that is playing in front of his hometown fans.
Although some of Major League Baseball’s most noteworthy sluggers and home run hitters are passing on the opportunity to participate in this year’s Home Run Derby at Nationals Park in Washington DC, the hometown favorite, Bryce Harper of the Nationals, has the oddsmaker’s edge to win the contest.
Analysts at MyTopSportsbooks.com posted the following Odds as projections for the2018 HR Derby, scheduled forMonday, July 16:
Home Run Derby Odds:(Odds to win for each player)

- Jesus Aguilar (Brewers): 13/2 (+650)
- Max Muncy (Dodgers): 8/1 (+800)
- Javier Baez (Cubs): 9/1 (+800)
- Rhys Hoskins (Phillies): 10/1 (+900)

Home Run Derby – First Round Odds:

- Bregman (3/1) vs Schwarber (1/3)
- Harper (4/5) vs Freeman (5/4)
- Muncy (5/6) vs Baez (6/5)
O/U total home runs: 170.5
MTS Oddsmaker note:“That (170.5) would be an average of roughly 12 homers per round. Last year, there were 195 total, which was boosted by a 23-home run round by NY Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and a 22-homer round by the Miami Marlins’ Justin Bour. This year’s group is not likely to post any numbers quite that high.
“For one thing, Judge weighs-in about 285 pounds and Bour is quietly 265 pounds. This year’s group is not nearly as big.”
Odds a ball leaves the stadium: 4/1
MTS oddsmaker note:
“Bryce Harper almost did it in a game! Apparently, that homer was measured at “only 451 feet,” so it seems doable if someone can place it in the right spot with a high trajectory.”
